Coffee, Tea & Hot Chocolate
Much is talked about coffee, who makes the best coffee & how it should taste, but we are not all the same & our tastes change with what we are eating or have recently eaten, there is no clear perfect cup of coffee.
In our coffee shop we want to deliver the drink that makes you come back, so it has too taste good, be at a reasonable price, but we also want to make it special, for some its a smaller/ thinner / lighter cup, for others a mug, 1 or 2 shots, maybe even 1 & 1/2 shots, cooler/hotter. We are more than happy to tweak what we do if it means you enjoy your coffee more, just let us know.
Our house Coffee Beans are 100% Arabica, for 9 years we purchased them from a large company that sell more bags per month than most. Those house beans were roasted by Starbucks, with a lighter roast than they have for their own in-house beans.
We switched to Cafe Direct for our main blend (still 100% arabica) & our Decaf beans are now illy.
Our regular tea is Tetley, because it's popular. We have a large range of fruit & herbal teas many that we sell in the shop. We currently don't do loose tea in the coffee shop but if we receive enough requests we will look at adding some.
The Hot Chocolate drinks we make is using Fairtrade Cafe Direct source hot chocolate, we think its very rich, dark & sweet.
We sell a range of Fentimans alongside regular cans bottles & cartons.

Our second Espresso machine in 9 years is a simple affair, just 2 gangs & no fancy shiny red side panels, neon lights on the back panel or underside, after all that doesnt affect the taste & we dont want anyone to think its a hot hatch!
We have 3 grinders in store, the main burr grinder for our regular beans, a small burr grinder for those choosing other beans & a very old French grinder that we use to grind retail beans for home brewing.
After nine years using a special blend roasted by Starbucks we have switched to Cafe Direct - the same brand we have used for hot chocolate for many years.
We visited local roasters, but were unable to move forward & so have decided to make the switch now to a national brand.
We have tried many brands of Decaf & have currently decided on illy as our preferred option, significantly more expensive but worth it.
Prior to taking over the deli, Pete one of the owners previously made coffee in America, Canada & in the 'little Italy' area of Bedford.
We have been serving Espresso based coffee's here in Hassocks at the Deli since 2007, with a top of the range integrated machine with 2 burr grinders & semi automatic operation (later used by McDonalds, KFC & even Costa went for something similar with its standalone machines). We replaced that machine for a traditional machine & returned to hand crafting coffees.
We have a reward scheme that applies to all hot drinks, collect a card, get 8 stamps & the next regular hot drink is on us. The only caveat is that stamps are not given where other offers apply or are used.
